Celebrate With Christmas Napkins

It may be hard to justify buying Christmas napkins that can only be used once a year, but oh how they add to the festivity of the season. Whether they are made of cloth or paper, they are a pleasant reminder that this is a very special time of year. A beautiful Christmas tablecloth with matching napkins can make your holiday table very elegant. Add a lovely centerpiece and those fancy dishes you received for your wedding and never use, and your family will feel like they entered an expensive restaurant.

Christmas napkins do seem like a frivolous purchase, but think about buying those that can be used for an entire winter season. Perhaps they will display snow-covered fir trees, holly and ivy, red cardinal birds, or a nice red and green plaid. These certainly can be used for any occasion from Thanksgiving through February.

Christmas napkins have many other uses besides daintily wiping your mouth. They make a nice liner for a basket where you can wrap the cloth around some bread to keep it fresh before serving dinner. They can be part of your centerpiece where you line a container with a napkin and then fill it with ornaments and greenery. Think how attractive it will be for Santa Claus to receive his Christmas cookies and milk with a lovely Christmas napkin to wipe his beard. Many people use them for lining baskets or other containers which they then fill with cookies, candy or holiday breads. A gift of four Christmas napkins with coordinating placemats is something nearly everyone could use.

Christmas napkins can be purchased anywhere from the grocery store, bed and bath shops or large department stores. The best time to buy them is right after Christmas when they will all be on sale. Cloth napkins do require an extra bit of care. Wash them on a delicate cycle and use a wrinkle shield if you have one on your dryer. Fold but do not iron them until right before you are going to use them next time. This way you won't risk wrinkling them during storage and then have to iron again. For delicate family heirlooms with fancy embroidery, you may want to consider having them dry cleaned. With proper care, you will be able to pass them down for many generations to come. Think of the happy memories they will bring back each winter when you bring them out for all of your holiday meals.
